Practical Impracticality
Innovative use of common items is one of the most interesting ways you can jaz up your living space. From door knobs and bunk beds to bed knobs and broom sticks, there are a lot of unique uses for everyday items that you might not initially think of.
Let’s start with bunk beds. I know, I know. Beds are just beds. Well, have you ever considered using a set of bunk beds in place of a couch? The addition of bunk beds to a living room adds an interesting nostalgic element that some people really enjoy. This effectively doubles the seating options for the square footage used.
Door handles are next on the list. Antique stores and yard sales are great places to pick them up because you can find really interesting hidden treasures. Decorative door knobs can be used as drawer pulls on cabinets and bureaus to add a whimsical feel. You can also set door knobs into a piece of wood and turn them into a snazzy looking coat rack.
Curtain hangers and a broom stick can turn into a coat rack to be used with hangers. Not only does this look really cool if you use an antique style broom but it doubles as storage for the broom when you don’t need it. It clears up a little closet space and adds another interesting element to the room.
I was mostly joking about bed knobs simply for the purpose of being culturally referential. Don’t judge me. I loved that movie when I was a kid. Maybe that’s why I want to fill my house with brooms and door knobs.
